Isaac Thomas Hecker: A "Yankee St. Paul"
Fr. George Fitzgerald, CSP
Sunday, March 18th after the 10am Mass
Hecker Room
Fr. Fitzgerald will share stories of this amazing founder, (in 1858), of the first community of American priests, Hecker worked diligently to promote evangelization in American culture particularly through the print media. He traveled throughout the United States giving missions, particularly to Protestants, seeking to break down barriers between them and Roman Catholics. The Paulists were the first Catholic priests to minister on secular university campuses through the founding of Newman Centers. Today they follow in Hecker's footsteps, present in parishes, campus ministries, urban information centers, and publishing via electronic, print, and broadcast media. Fr. Hecker has been declared a "Servant of God", a step toward canonization.
