Congratulations to Brian Carlton!
Brian solved the following puzzler and received a gift certificate to Yogurtland:
Describe the famous scene in the book of Kings that showed King Solomon’s wisdom as he adjudicated a claim brought before him. Give the chapter of the book of Kings in which it happened.
His response:
The story that shows Solomon’s wisdom is 1 Kings 3:16-28. Two prostitutes living in the same house had babies and one of the babies died. The mother whose son died switched the babies so that the other woman would think her son had died. To resolve the dispute and find out who was the real mother, King Solomon ordered the baby cut in two, and half given to each woman. The woman whose son it was begged for Solomon to give the other
woman the child and not kill him, whereas the false mother thought it a good idea to cut the baby in two.
New Puzzler
OK, for all you science and engineering types, here’s a challenging trivia question from the Old Testament: Describe how one of the Judges became convinced, after the use of a hydrometer, that God would help the Israelites achieve victory over their enemies, the Midianites. Who was the Judge, what test did this Judge put to God, how did God pass the tests, and in what chapter of what book of the Bible is this story found?
The first person to answer this correctly will receive recognition and a gift certificate to a local eatery. Please contact Fr. Bill Edens with your answer at frbill.csp@gmail.com.
