The Sacrament of Baptism
For infants, the Sacrament of Baptism, is celebrated quarterly at a Sunday Liturgy. Father Al Moser meets with parents prior to the Celebration. For others whose schedules do not coincide with these quarterly dates you are invited to contact one of the priests to arrange a suitable time.
The Sacrament of First Eucharist
Generally preparations are made through our Sunday Religious Education program (during the 9:30 Mass). Second Grade children spend the year preparing for the reception of First Communion and First Reconciliation.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Priests are available by appointment. Saturday afternoon from 3:30 till 4:30 pm is our regular weekly time. Twice a year during Advent and on Good Friday a number of priests are available for a Communal Celebration of the Sacrament.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Children in high school (generally during their sophomore or junior years) are prepared for the Confirmation through our Religious Education program. Please contact Frances Rojek. College students and other young adults desiring to be confirmed meet for classes beginning the first Tuesday of February and running for about seven weeks. The celebration of the Sacrament usually happens either just before Easter or just after, depending on the availability of the Bishop or Chancellor.
Sacrament of Anointing the Sick
This sacrament is for people who are seriously ill, or who have suffered significant limitation, whether physical or psychological, or who are preparing for surgery in the near future. We have a public celebration of this sacrament on the Feast of Christ the King (usually the Sunday after Thanksgiving). The priests are available also at any time of need.
Sacrament of Marriage
For couples preparing for marriage in the Catholic Church, whether here at Newman or anywhere in the world, we welcome you to contact one of the priests at least six months before your proposed wedding date. Newman provides two Marriage Preparation programs, a gift of several married couples in the parish. Please check at the front desk for specific times of these programs. They are usually held on two Saturdays in October and in March. There is a $125.00 charge for these programs, payable to Holy Spirit/Newman Hall.
Aside from these Sacramental moments of worship and prayer one can find additional times for small group prayer, meditation, retreats and scripture study. Please consult updates on the web as well as weekly bulletin announcements and information posted on the first floor bulletin board.
