Couples Ministry

Who is the Couples Ministry for?

Engaged and married couples; couples in long-term relationships

When does the Couples Ministry meet? What does the Couples Ministry do?

Twice a year, in the spring and fall. We hold (evening) programs that offer couples an opportunity to focus on their marriages. Our primary aim is to help couples develop tools and perspectives that can strengthen and enrich their relationships. A secondary aim of the ministry is to expand a sense of community at Newman by bringing parishioners together outside of mass.

Evening meetings typically include a mixer activity that encourage couples to meet each other. This is followed by a 2- hour program that explores an aspect of the dynamics of marital or long term relationships. In the past we’ve offered programs that look at marriage through the lens of Myers-Briggs Personality types, though Imago Relationship therapy, and more recently through the Gottman Insistitute’s research on successful couples. We have also had programs on spirituality in marriage, money in marriage, and many programs on communication in marriage.
