EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT NEWMAN: On August 7 and the first Saturday of every month we will be exposing the Blessed Sacrament from the conclusion of the 12:10 p.m. Mass (about 12:30) until 4:30 p.m., concluding with Benediction. FALL 2010 MARRIAGE 'TUNE UP': Darrell Christian, a parishioner and clinical psychologist, will be offering a 3-part marriage "tune-up" for couples on three Saturdays this fall: Sept. 25, Oct. 16, and Nov. 13, 6:30-9:00 p.m. The program is designed help couples identify their patterns of interaction and develop tools to build on strengths and address weaknesses in these interactions. Although each session will build on the previous, each is also designed to stand alone. Couples may attend any one, two or all three of the evenings. Desserts and beverages will be provided. MORE 'LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER': Out of consideration for those who are challenged by severe allergic reactions to scents and perfumes, it would be a great kindness if you would consider not using any scented products when in close proximity to others - especially at weekend Masses. This includes perfumes, deodorants, hand creams, hair products, and the like. This will enable all to 'in-spire' the Spirit deeply and safely. MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE: Billy Elliot: Entertainment Weekly says, "The best thing about Billy Elliot is Jamie Bell's performance. He makes Billy the angelic urchin joyous in a streetwise, un-phony way, and his dancing, which fuses classical ballet rigor with a loose-jointed pop showmanship, is electric." Monday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. The NONVIOLENT PEACEMAKING GROUP invites you to join us as we remember the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Monday, Aug. 9th, at 7 p.m. Our prayer service will include prayer, music, and silent meditation. We commemorate this date to remind us of the continued suffering and to recommit ourselves to the dismantling of nuclear weapons. AS THE YEAR FOR PRIESTS DRAWS TO A CLOSE, Bishop Salvatore has requested that on Wednesday, August 4, the feast day of St. John Vianney, at 7 p.m., all parishes in the diocese hold an hour of Eucharistic Adoration to pray for vocations to the priesthood. Come join us in the Newman chapel as we as a parish and diocese gather together for this holy hour. All are invited to attend! A SUMMER ROSARY GROUP meets Thursdays at 8 p.m. in the Gallery to meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and to share our spiritual faith with one another. The Rosary is one of the most ancient & powerful devotions that we have as Catholics. Through our devotion to Mary, we are taken closer to the heart of Jesus, for no heart is closer to Jesus' heart than that of His mother! In connecting our hearts to Mary's, we take on her purity, faith, and devotion to her Son. So come share in the love, devotion of faith, and fellowship with one another! Are you a Berkeley student here for the summer and looking for some spiritual enrichment? Come by our SUMMER STUDENT BIBLE STUDY which will be at Newman on Wednesday nights from 7 to 8 p.m. It's a great opportunity to grow closer to Christ this summer alongside other Catholic college students. There is no preparation necessary, and you can bring a Bible if you have one. The Bible study group will meet until August 18. YAGGIES CALENDAR: The Yaggies calendar is available on-line. Visit http://tinyurl.com/m8qhxe to see planned events further ahead and in more detail than the bulletin's space permits. YAGGIES BAY AREA SUMMER HIKING SERIES: Throughout the summer Yaggies will be meeting approximately every second Saturday to explore various parks and trails throughout the Bay Area. Please note that hikes will take place on soft surface trails/single track, and will generally be in the hills, so please be sure to wear proper footwear, and to bring along extra clothing, water (1-2 bottles minimum), and nutrition. Approximate length and difficulty of the hike will be provided in the description. We will generally meet at Newman at the start time indicated, and will car-pool to the trailhead from there. Start times will vary throughout the summer depending on how far afield we're travelling. Any questions, or suggestions for locations, please email newman.yaggies@gmail.com.
YAGGIES THURSDAY NIGHT FAITH & FELLOWSHIP: Every Thursday, usually 7:30 p.m. at Newman, but sometimes the fun occurs elsewhere! See event details for specifics.

Also, we need an undergraduate student from Cal to represent Loaves and Fishes with student ministries. Leave your contact information with receptionist. A MONDAY WRITERS' GROUP meets in the Isaac Hecker Room at Newman Hall on Monday afternoons from 1 to 3. (Although we're skipping July 5th.) The group is for writers who would like to share their work by reading aloud to others and having the work commented on. We do not write in the group, but bring completed works or works in progress. Some members are working on autobiographies, novels, poems, children's stories—we are varied in our writing styles and topics. New members are welcome, always. If you have questions please e-mail Tina Kreitz at cckreitz@comcast.net. DON'T BE LEFT OUT: Since November when His Hands & Feet Ministry began, it has grown in ways beyond our imagination.
