Weekly Update-May 27, 2012

HELP NEWMAN NURTURE NEW CAL STUDENTS THROUGH NATURE, NOW!

Last August we gave away 350 potted plants to students. These housewarming gifts were a big hit!  It was a lot of work to prepare them, but it was spread among many hands. Many thanks to all who donated time, plants, and money last year!

Would you like to help prepare 400 plants for this August?  Welcome Week begins August 20th, which gives us about 12 weeks.  When it comes to rooting plants, 12 weeks goes by very quickly.

From the feedback I received from students, the succulent plants have the best chance of success.  So this year we’re going to do all succulents!

Here are some times that you can help with rooting and potting plants:

  • Tuesday, June 5th-Sunday June 10th.
  • Friday, June 22nd – Tuesday, June 26th.

We need help with watering from now until August 20th, but especially during June and July.

If you would like to help with this project please contact Fr. Bill at frbill.csp@gmail.com.

Thanks!

MONDAY NIGHT MOVIES

Newman Monday Night Movies return with “HARVEY.” The wonderful Pulitzer Prize play becomes one of the great Motion Pictures of our time! Elwood P. Dowd (James Stewart) is a mild-mannered, pleasant man, who just happens (he says) to have an invisible friend resembling a 6-foot rabbit. Join us this Monday, June 4th at 7:30 p.m. here at Newman.

We have established a fund through which students that are graduating in 2012 can make a donation to the Catholic Students at Cal Program Fund and be matched by the university 2 to 1. (A gift from a senior to the fund of $25 will result in $75 receipt by the fund). Recent Alumni (up to 5 years graduated) can donate to the fund and be matched by the university, 1 to 1. Donations from seniors and alums must be received by June 30th, 2012 to be matched by the university. The funds we raise may be broadly applied to programming for Catholic students at UC Berkeley.

All checks should be made out to “Catholic Students at Cal Program Fund.” Please link to the donation card for more information about making a donation or click here to make an online donation.
